just now I realized this is probably not a Linux related issue. There are inspectors that have the workspace feature, and some that don't. Even on Windows. Here on my laptop (VA 8.5.2 on Win XP) I see this:
* Inspect 'AbtTimestamp now' --> No Toggle Workspace on/off, neither in the inspector's menu nor as a tool button
* Inspect 'Smalltalk' --> Toggle Button and Menu Item are there.
Since I am on the road and don't have a Lnux VM with me, I cannot verify if that is what I thought I was seeing on Linux. Maybe I was just looking at one of those who don't offer that option.
But one question remains? Why is it available in some Inspectors, but not in others?
Is there anything I can do to change that? I tried the VA Assist settings for Toolbars, and none of the Inspectors that are in the list can be configured to have that Icon or not. Andeven if there was, it still wouldn't fully explain why the option is also not in the Options Menu.
Is this a bug or a feature?

the INspector on Linux doesn't have an icon for the Workspace. The menu option is there, but not the toolbar icon. Bad for the muscular memory if your first move after inspecting is clicking that icon ;-)
BTW: is there an option somewhere to open a Workspace in inspectors by default?
