As part of a recent project I was asked to create a small soundex thingy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soundex I told the company that I'd do it but it'd be opensource and I'd give it to the community. Hi, This algorithm is useful for search. Imagine that you go to a hospital with an urgent problem, people are in a hurry, they need to find you super fast, someone dictates the name and someone else searches for it to find if you have no allergies. In this situation there is no time to think whether he mentioned "Lucas" or "Lukasz". Hence, the soundex search :).
