[ANN] Seaside 2.8.2

Philippe Marschall
Seaside 2.8.2 is the second maintenance relese for Seaside 2.8. It includes
small fixes and improvements. For more information see the changelog
below.

You can get it from Universes, SqueakMap, or Monticello
(Seaside2.8a1-lr.563). There you'll also find updated, matching versions
for Scriptaculous, Comet, Magritte, Pier and RSRSS. The OneClick image
has been updated as well.

Changelog:
- fixed a bug introduced by a fix in Seaside 2.8.1 for the
WAKom/Encoded* when the port is given as a command line argument
classes.
- fixed a bug with cache headers pointing to the wrong day of week
- fixed WAFlowTest
- improvements to WASnapshot
- reworked some functional tests
- fixed WAApplication class >> #description is case the root component
is not set
- backported Roger Whitney's class comments from VW
- some fixes to #submitFormNamed:
- added #submitFormNamed: to radio buttons and select
- includes a backport of a patch to WAExternalId, reduces lock
acquisition time and lock
contention for WAExternalId.

We recommend this upgrade to anyone currently using Seaside 2.8 or
2.8.1 regardless of the Smalltalk dialect.

Cheers
The Seaside Team

Re: [ANN] Seaside 2.8.2

Rick Flower
Philippe et-al,

For us VW users, is a version available for VW?  I've been away from
VW/Seaside
for about a year and am upgrading to a newer VW version (7.6 from 7.5)
and see a
comment in the latest version of SeasideForWebToolkit
(v2.8a1.518.0,mbany)
that reads "Seaside 2.8 "final" for WebToolkit".. I didn't see
anything newer in the
Cincom public repository since  that version was published last
October.. Is there
a newer version and should I be trying to use any available 2.9
version or is it too
bleeding edge at this point?

Thx!

If the tools were available, I would personally put some time aside to try and maintain the port up to date, there's no real reason for visualworks to trail behind squeak and gemstone IMHO.

You should stay away from Seaside 2.9 for the time being. Don't worry
we'll write a mail when starting with testing will make sense.

Cheers

Re: [ANN] Seaside 2.8.2

Thanks Michael!

I guess I didn't realize that there was a shift away from Webtoolkit
for VW and over to OpenTalk (I'm not sure what the difference is).  I'll
have to update my text file that shows what packages to load into a
vanilla VW VM to get my Seaside stuff going.. I'm sure I'll have a little
learning curve again as I get back into this stuff.  Thanks again!

Re: [ANN] Seaside 2.8.2

James Robertson-7
Opentalk is just the underlying http connector for both Web Toolkit
and for Seaside.  With our Seaside support in 7.6, we don't rely on
Web Toolkit at all.
