Amazon Instance for 1.1 Beta

If you have an AWS account, you can try out the amazon instance we've created:

The WV1.1 beta AMI has id ami-9a866ef3. Of course, you'll need an AWS account to try it out, and here are a couple of pointers to get you past non-obvious stuff:

When you launch an instance, the 'Connect' instructions will say something like ssh -i <your-identify-file> root@<your-instance-public-dns>. Do not use 'root', use 'ubuntu' to connect to your instance via ssh.
In your security group settings, add a TCP connection on port 7777 to allowed connections.
Once you're logged in as 'ubuntu' via ssh, do the following:

su webvelocity (password: 'password')
sudo webvelocity start

After that, you should be able to access WV on <your-instance-public-dns>:7777.

You can use the amazon interface to map the 7777 port to 80 as well as set up amazon load balancing. You can also use AmazonRDS as a mysql database if you so desire.

Just want to let you know that I got that image (ami) running now and
am able to browse through the new IDE :-) . Store connection also
succeeded.

However, I do see a lot of tracing information coming down on the
console that started webvelocity. If needed, I can send it by mail.

That idea has been discussed, but there's nothing close to a consensus at this point. How much would people like that?

WaveMaker first worked out the downloadable edition too before
launching a "Cloud Edition"

You can deploy WebVelocity on other cloud platforms; we wanted to make it very easy for a well known cloud service.

That wasn't what he was asking. The idea behind this is that Cincom would offer a cloud service (likely on Rackspace, or Amazon, or whatever) - but we would manage and bill customers directly

It is always a future option, but currently no plans for that kind of offering.

Given the prices and service a provider like Amazon can offer, what would you see as the advantage?
