1000.0e171 and 1.0e174 both print as 1.0e174, but their internal representation differs in the LSB of the mantissa.
1000.0e171 is #[100 16 44 53 247 41 104 158] while
1.0e174 is #[100 16 44 53 247 41 104 159].
