Beta Bug Reporting and Release Notes

Andy Bower-3
Folks,

=NEW WEBSITE=

First of all, the nascent Object Arts site for Dolphin X6 is now
online. There's not that much there at present but you can find it at:

http://www.object-arts.com/newsite

You can use the Downloads page to access the latest beta downloads and
the Support page to review the Release Notes (fixed bugs) and
Outstanding Issues (unfixed bugs).

=NEW BUG REPORTING PROCEDURE=

We have spent some time this week (and some expense) upgrading our bug
tracking system (TestTrackPro from seapine.com) to enable you to enter
the beta bug reports directly into our tracking database. If you go to
the Support page on the new site you'll see a link at the bottom to
enable you to do this.

We'd like you (please) to enter all new bug reports directly in this
manner. First of all though, it would be a good idea to check through
the Release Notes and the Outstanding issue reports to avoid the
necessity of re-reporting something that has already been discovered.
If you think that your bug report may interest others (probably most
will I should think) then can you also copy the detail of the report
into a newsgroup message and post it here as before.

Now a pretty please. Could those of you who have posted bug reports on
the beta so far please go through your newsgroup postings and re-enter
them using the web process. There are quite a large number of these (as
you've no doubt noticed) and if we can share the task of entering these
into the database between everyone it will give us more time to review
them and work on the fixes. Obviously, you only need to enter the
problems that *you* have found.

I'm sorry if this is a little tedious but it would be most helpful from
our point of view. If this process works out okay for the beta then
we'll probably adopt it for the final release too.

Best regards,

Schwab,Wilhelm K
Andy,

I'm not sure if this is a bug of feature, but I am getting many emails
from your system.  If it is intentional, I should be able to set up a
filter to put them in a folder devoted to the beta.  Toward the latter,
if you can configure a "from" address for the emails, that would help.

Have a good one,

Bill

That's not right. I'll look into it.

Just wondering.  Are these pages updated automatically or do you have to
manually run a report?

Unfortunately, we have to manually run a report. Hence there is the
possibility of overlap when some bugs may have been reported or fixed
but do not appear in the appropriate lists.

We did toy at one stage with giving all the beta testers their own Test
Track Pro account (restricted of course) so that the various reports
could be run by your good selves as when required. However, not only
was this more complex to set up (and more expensive) but also I think
it would be more trouble than it's worth from your point of view.

The current situation is a reasonable compromise, I think. While the
bugs are coming thick and fast, we'll run off a new report every day.

If you have a spare minute (likely, I know) could you tone down the blue
colouring a bit, please ?  I find it almost impossible to read the text through
the strong blue-and-white stripes.

Altenatively, does anyone know how (or know a link to somewhere that tells how)
to get Firefox to use a custom style-sheet for a given URL ?

Well, that's tricky. The page is (obviously) generated by TestTrackPro
and I wanted to be able to replace the overall appearence with one more
in tune with our site colour scheme. However, it's all done with CSS
and (being a bear of little brain) it was all too much for me to delve
into.

Couldn't you turn down the colour on your monitor :-)
