[BetaTesting] [ANN] Pharo1.0-10507-rc2dev10.01.2

Torsten Bergmann
Thanks. The image (both the ST-part and the background) looks good.

Mariano would you please use the numbering from Damien when
uploading to inria, currently  http://gforge.inria.fr/frs/?group_id=1299
looks like:

   Pharo (pharo-dev)
     Pharo1.0-10508-rc2dev10.01.2  2010-01-22 15:26
        Pharo1.0-10508-rc2dev10.01.2.zip

but should

   Pharo (pharo-dev)
      10.01.2                          2010-01-22 15:26
        Pharo1.0-10508-rc2dev10.01.2.zip

since a release can have more than one file.

I adopted this for the Pharo Win32 Setup section too.

A fresh win32 installer is currently in preparation.

With the step from RC1 to RC2 we should change the current status
on:
     http://pharo-project.org/home

and make the image available on:

     http://pharo-project.org/pharo-download

Thx
T.

Yes, but later. Remember the idea of the beta testing. Once the image is tested by the beta-testers, and only if it is ok, it will be uploaded there for the "final users"

Cheers

Mariano

Thx

Here's the first test run, on a fresh image (see JPEG attached for results).

I just unzipped the files, started Pharo and ran the Test Runner.

No preferences changed, nothing even evaluated in a workspace!

I'm on XP if that helps!

Thanks for testings !  Yes, sorry, when I said there was only one failing I was talking about core, sorry for the confusion.

I already know that those tests are failing, and I even sent several mails asking for help. I even cc'ed maintainers...sorry, cannot do more.

There are mostly failings for Nile and OB

Cheers

Ok, OBButtonBarTest>>testLayout we have seen before. I thought that I
fixed it, but obviously it still breaks depending on the active UI
Theme. The thing is that the "Watery 2" are so bulky that they float
over the space that the test-case gives them, so the layout breaks. I
made the space wider, so it passes with all UI Themes again. It will
break again when somebody makes the fonts bigger or something similar
...

I cannot reproduce the Gofer test failure. Can you debug it and/or
provide a stack trace?

Fixed here:

Name: OB-Tests-Morphic-lr.24
Author: lr
Time: 22 January 2010, 5:52:31 pm
UUID: d7dbc6d2-a995-4be4-a321-6f63797ce39c

- avoid that the 'Watery 2' UI Theme lets the buttons of the button
morph overflow and break the test

This is weird...we have several tests failing, erroring, successing in different OS.

Someone has already reported in windows, Laurent in Linux, and here is in mac.

Can someone please put all the information together so that we know which tests are failing and in which OS.

Cheers

Mariano

I've taken a look at TestIndenting>>testCR2 and TestIndenting and TestIndenting>>testNewLineLeaveSpacesOnOldLine which fails on my machine only

I needs some hints :) I've attached a screenshot of a debugging session on testNewLineLeaveSpacesOnOldLine.

It fails because Form object answered by
(para asForm copy: (0@cb top extent: 24@cb height)

has at least bit 240 not white.   (depth: 32).

What should I do/check now ?

Thanks Miguel...we will need to analyze those tests :(

BTW, you seem to be using a VM without the FTPlugin compiled as your fonts looks ugly. Are you aware of that ?

wow....Laurent: can you check which and why are the tests that are failing in each vm but not in the other ?

maybe because of FTPlugin ?   or another plugin that it is not in both vms but requiered by the tests?

I lack knowledge :(

me too :)   Don't worry. We are all trying to do our best.

how can I enable / disable a plugin ?

I don't know if this is possible. Maybe in some Linux/Mac distros maybe how can just delete the files, but in Windows for example, I think they are build inside the vm...

What can I check more precisely ?

I think with this: " SmalltalkImage current listLoadedModules"

What would really help is to:

- See which plugins do you have in each Linux VM, with  that piece of code.
- Check which tests are failing and do a quick review. Because maybe they are failing due to a primitive or something for the VM. We need to discover what is the problem. Not necessary fix it, but at least to know where the problem came from.

Cheers and thanks a lot for the help.

Mariano

I my squeakvm:

3.11.3-2135 #1 XShm Wed Sep 16 14:25:10 PDT 2009 gcc 4.3.3
Debian GNU/Linux Squeeze amd64

gives:

 #('LargeIntegers v1.5 26 August 2009 (i)' 'B2DPlugin 26 August 2009
(i)' 'BitBltPlugin 26 August 2009 (i)' 'SecurityPlugin 26 August 2009

There is also SmalltalkImage current listBuiltinModules, which lists the
modules that are compiled into the VM executable, as opposed to "external"
modules that are in shared libraries (.dll or .so files).

The available plugins are those that appear in #listBuiltinModules, plus
any external plugins that the VM can find in shared libraries. If you
look at #listBuiltinModules plus the shared libraries you have in your
installation, that will tell you the available plugins.

The #listLoadedModules are the plugins (internal and external) that
your image has actually used since you last restarted it, so you have
to actually do something in Smalltalk that uses a plugin before it will
show up in #listLoadedModules.

When you inspect the list of loaded modules, you will notice either '(i)'
or '(e)' to indicate whether the loaded module is an internal plugin
or and external plugin. For example, 'BitBltPlugin 20 January 2010 (i)'
indicates that the BitBltPlugin was loaded from a module that was compiled
into the VM executable, and 'UnixOSProcessPlugin 20 January 2010 (e)'
indicates a module that was loaded from an external shared library.
