Works for me on Windows with Pharo 1.2/1.3 and Standard as well as Cog VM.
Haven tried on Linux or other platforms.
Since it's code from OLPC I guess it should work also on non-windows platforms - but maybe the VM code was not integrated. You may ask on vm-dev list.
