BrainBench has an online Smalltalk certification exam

Jan Theodore Galkowski-2
Ah, a way of paving the path for more commercial use of Smalltalk!

BrainBench has an online Smalltalk certification exam.  Check it out
at:

I don't work for them.  I just think it's neat.

Many of junior consultants at Dynamic have completed this certification.
They felt that the site is really nice, but it seems a bit too easy.

Vinay,

That's good to know.  Apparently, Smalltalk isn't popular enough for
them to list preparatory tests to give a feel for it, and I don't
have the hour right now to take the full test.  I hope to, soon.

So, they don't do much about patterns and design?

Actually, as I recall, half the test is about OO design and analysis,
with at least one question about design patterns (the test is adaptive,
so the questions that I saw won't necessarily be the ones you see).

Take the test, it's fun...

I'd have to agree that the Smalltalk part is too easy.

The Smalltalk exam has two modules (you have to take both):
Object-Oriented design and Smalltalk.  The Smalltalk exam is, as I said
above, easy for anyone who has at least written a class or two in ST.
The OO design module I found a bit harder and the questions were a
little more refined (although there were some broken english
questions/answers here and there)...the questions included metrics,
patterns, and design.  The goal of each question seemed obvious upon
reading it which is why I'm a bit surprised that I didn't do better on
that part...wow!  I sound like one of my students.

All and all it was fun to take the exam.  Since I've never worked
professionally on a ST project I wanted to see where I stood.  I doubt
that I would hire someone based on the results of this test but I would
certainly consider it as part of an application package.
