Bug tracking software

Carsten Haerle
Blair,

I found that you were evaluating TestTracker Pro in 2001. Did you decide to
use the tool for you bug and issue management and can contents with the
product? I am currently also looking for such a software (should be able to
track bugs, improvement wished or change requests).

Regards

We do indeed use TTPro, and have been very happy with it. It has proved very
reliable, bug free, and fit for purpose. It exhibits a pleasing attention to
detail that is so often absent in software. The UI of the socket-based
(client-server) client is almost modeless too, which is also unusual (and
refreshing). It even has a perfectly usable pure HTML web client, which is
also most unusual in my experience. We have no experience of the tools for
end-user bug reporting that it provides, since we have not used them. I have
only one reservation about it: I'm not sure how well it would scale if you
have very large numbers of defects, users, etc, because of certain aspects
of the client and UI design, and the database technology used on the server.

At the time we evaluated it, it was the only affordable (though not
inexpensive), high quality, bug tracking system we could find. The supposed
"free" alternatives available at the time were either low functionality
hosted services, or did not fit our installation and support requirements
(i.e. they did not have one-click installs), and we judged that they would
cost us considerably more in terms of our own time than we paid for TTPro.

The only caveat would be that since it has continued to meet our needs, we
haven't upgraded it, so we can't comment and the features and stability of
recent versions. I don't doubt there are more features, but you'll have to
judge for yourself if the quality has been maintained and whether they have
improved scalability.

Regards

Blair
