Cairo to be supported

Maarten Mostert
Hi
Cairo is there now since over 5 years.
Is there any visibility or planning about its future support.
Is Cincom aware of the issues. Do you want us to isolate them to help you advancing on the subject?
Regards,
@+Maarten

Hi Maarten,

Actually a recount of any major issues you're having would be helpful. In terms of supporting Cairo as part of the product / product suite, nothing has been decided yet. Cairo is definitely on our minds day to day. We talk about it regularly.

Cheers,
Michael

Re: Cairo to be supported

Maarten Mostert

Hi Michael,

Well I don’t have any issue with the API in itself anymore as the text issues on OSX are solved with 7.9. What remains for me is everything which is related with having an image including lots of Cairo stuff saving it and opening it on another platform. This sometimes works, but often it fails. Basically every time I seem to open and close my app, things seem to remain and my image grows and grows up to the point that it gets unusable obliging me to use the changes file. This is sort of oké as long as I only use Cairo in my app as it does take some time to get there, however I can imagine that using a look and feel with Cairo would be annoying as we are pretty much used to take our image from platform to platform. It is not excluded that it is my home bread approach that creates these things; others might be able to report their experiences. I thought you were probably aware of these, but have no idea really.

Regards,

@+Maarten,

Hi!

I do not really have an answer to your question, but I can't resist to talk a bit about what we have done.

Together with Chris, we have worked very hard on making Roassal use the Cairo Renderer. One can easily switch form the classical to the Cairo rendering backend. A screenshot is available on:

More screenshots about Roassal: http://objectprofile.com/pier/Products/Roassal/Screenshots

We will announce the Cairo support next week.

Cheers,
Alexandre
