On a general note, does anybody else think that the response to pressing the
Control-Break key in D6 is worse then in previous versions?. It has always,
understandably, been sluggish on occasions but in D6 I have sometimes found
that leaving it for long periods (i.e. while I wander off to make a cup of
tea) still doesn't result in a break.
It _may well_ be that what I am doing, experimentation is a workspace,
doesn't lend itself to giving Ctrl-Break a lot of chances to kick in but I
don't remember having to resort to using the Task Manager quite so often :-(
Anyway, the main point of the post is to say that I've uploaded a small
goodies update to my web page in a small (3.5K) zip file.
http:\\www.idb.me.uk\files\update.zip
It contains two packages...
An update to the changes for the variables view that was discussed here a
few days ago. The code is the same but it's now in a package and has been
tweaked to avoid the pre-perquisites problem that the original caused.
The second package contained in the zip is a small response to the
Control-Break situation mentioned above. It adds an AutoSave to the
Workspace so that every time you DisplayIt, EvaluateIt or InspectIt in a
SmalltalkWorkspaceDocument (nb: not every SmalltalkWorkspace but only those
associated with a SmalltalkWorkspaceDocument) a copy is saved to a file.
Only a single file (named "Workspace Auto Save.st" and placed in the image
folder) is maintained, with the next workspace operation overwriting any
previous contents, but it does give an easy fallback if you have to resort
to the TaskManager. The goody uses part of my existing goodies framework
so you will have to have that available to install this part of the update.
