Is this error really only related to #stepThrough?

If you just execute the code
<code>#(2) select: [:i| 3].</code>

I would expect an error like:
MessageNotUnderstood: SmallInteger>>ifTrue:
but instead, I get:
Array(Object)>>errorSubscriptBounds:
