Font correction for VisualWorks 7.8.1 on Ubuntu?

Conrad Taylor
Hi, is there any easy fix to resolve the appearance of the fonts on Linux?  At this time, the fonts appear to be very grainy (i.e. not anti-aliased) as they appear in other application on Ubuntu 12.04.

A colleague recently experimented with his new Ubuntu install and came
to the conclusion, that you have to install the following two font
packages:
   xfonts-100dpi
   xfonts-75dpi

I did not try it myself (stuck to Windows here), but he seems to be
happy with the results.

Jan, thanks for the information and I'll give it a try.

It seems to help.
Don't forget to restart the machine after you installed those packages. It's not beautiful but definitely better than before.

It's an improvement over the default xfont but they are still grainy.

Yes, I definitely agree and I have my fingers crossed that VW will decide to move to cross platform GUI toolkit like Qt which has native support for many platforms.  Anyway, thanks again for the information.
