could this be used in other OSes, for example, Mac OS X(without X11)  
and MS Windows?

I think it's GTK based.  If so, yes, but the look and feel wouldn't be
100% native.

Yes off course I only use linux but it should be possible to compile GTKWebKit
under windows (an instance messaging client use it), and certainly under
MacOsX
