Future of Dolphin/Object Arts

Robert Kovacic
First a general question - is there a roadmap for the future development of
Dolphin?

Some more specific questions:
1. What impact will the Windows Vista release have on Dolphin Smalltalk?
2. With Microsoft pushing the Common Language Runtime for its development
languages, does this mean that products like Dolphin will in any way be
restricted in taking full advantage of Vista and subsequent releases of
Windows?

Would be great to have some answers on that.

As pointed out in the article "One Runtime to Bind Them All", the .NET
"Common" Language Runtime (CLR) is only suited for languages the are very
similar to Microsoft's own language named C# : "While .NET's runtime tries
to be language-neutral, this is true mostly for languages that look a lot
like C#, which semantics, typesystem, and runtime requirements are richer
than Java's but still poor from the point of view of many other languages."

As the world has not switched to using only Microsoft tools and languages,
Vista will -- just like Windows XP -- support programs not targeted for the
CLR. Note that even Microsoft does not deliver all its own software using
the CLR.

Still, it would be nice to get some comments from Object Arts. It would for
example be nice to know whether .NET components can be used in Dolphin
Smalltalk.
