The Famo.us GitHub repo is now live and open to all and we've been inviting 500 people each weekday to the Famo.us platform. The rollout has gone well, so we're starting to increase the rate at which we invite everyone waiting in line.
  • Immediately: We're increasing from 500 to 1,000 daily invites
  • May 1: If that goes well, we'll increase again
  • Early May: We'll begin letting users bump three friends through the line

Can't wait? Get bumped to the front of the line:

App Spotlight

The team from Plugg (@Bizboard)—an app that aims to make listening to music a social experience again—traveled from Amsterdam to participate in the Famo.us private beta. Their app, demoed here, shows off a wide range of impressive animations inFamo.us.

Chris Brahmer (@UnaBrahmer) of InkaBinka, a news summary app, was one of the earliest Famo.us private beta participants. After that experience, InkaBinka decided to pivot and build its app on theFamo.us platform instead.

Get profiled!
If you're already building apps in Famo.us, tweet us (@befamous) a link to your project and use hashtag #myfamousapp. We're looking for more great Famo.us apps to feature in a community gallery on our website.

Famo.us is for EVERYONE

Now that Famo.us is free and open source, we are beginning the next step in our mission to make Famo.us available for EVERYONE. While the best stats tell us there are about 14 million career developers on Earth, we're thinking about a much larger ecosystem. Why not create an environment that welcomes all developers and all skill sets? Why not welcome everyone interested in building beautiful apps?

To accomplish this goal, we must not only welcome developers of ALL skill sets, but we must engage a broader community of people who want to build apps but have traditionally been left out.

We strongly believe that this needs to be a community effort. To help create a public conversation around these very important issues, we've created the hashtags below so our community can share ideas and refer back to the discussion later.
  • #famousWomen - At our last meetup, 800 people attended. 790 were men, 10 were women. This is a problem industry-wide, and we'd love for our community to play a role in changing things. We must produce real and substantive ideas to be more inclusive to women, and we'd love to hear what you think.

  • #famousTeams - Building an app takes more than developers. It takes designers, product people, data people, and project managers. How can we include everyone on the team within theFamo.us ecosystem? We've already begun to integrate new tools for designers to mod physics animations on the fly—but what else can we do?

  • #famousLanguages - Many people who don't speak English as a first language may struggle with English-only reference documents and tutorials. How can we better serve this community inside of Famo.us University? How can we welcome all languages to Famo.us?

  • #famousKids - Involving kids in learning about technology, apps, and coding can be something that creates lifelong benefits, but kids are rarely considered as a target audience for reference documents or lesson plans. How can we create a special section of Famo.us University for kids who are interested in learning to code?

  • #famousAccessibility - Many platforms require people to buy software, pay for training, and have an expensive desktop or laptop. But with Famo.us, the software is free, the education is free, and anyone can take classes and build apps on a $200 netbook. What else can we do to make Famo.us accessible for people on a budget?

  • #famousCareer - Learning a platform is more than just a technical decision—it's a career decision. How can we give people the tools, the education, and the platform to build an entire career? How can we be a lifelong partner for people who choose to learn Famo.us? We've built Famo.us University as a foundational element to help with this strategy. What if we taught everything you'd ever need to know about all types of programming and made it free?
I'm looking forward to participating in the conversation and hearing from you - @stevenewcomb

What is this famo.us thing at all? Why the fuss? When I click on it, I only see nonfunctioning web (all that is there is login/registet, no About link at all, and Helpbin menu going back to login).

Andy Burnett <[hidden email]>napísal/a:

And, the Meteor team are collaborating with the famo.us team.  Now, if we can just make the whole stack programmable via Amber we will be laughing!

A example in open source marketing. If you register you get told that
your are the 70'000th or so in a queue waiting for a full release in
May.

Re: Fwd: #iamfamous

However it might be nice to do a small physics simulation example
completely in Amber..

Similar to Sebastian's poly example but implemented fully in  Amber.

Have some HTML div tags with rounded corners so that they form circles
in an enclosed HTML div and have them moving around.

Similar to the BouncingAtomsMorph demo in Squeak/Pharo.

It’s the only thing that enables rendering 2D and 3D at ~60fps in mobile from javascript

As shown here:

and here:

Beside that, they have the right metaphor which is the UI as physical objects  (so let the render engine to deliver a physical-like experience on your widgets)

Is a huge real market opportunity, the whole mobile advertising segment alone will easily get contracts in getting things done with it

Another segment:
who (that isn’t a big game studio) wouldn’t have its game done in it?

This is a quantum leap forward, ahead of things like PhysicJS and even three.js that’s also awesome but can’t achieve what famous does

This kind of "marketing" completely failed for me. The site smelled of
phishing or something other evil to me - no about, just form to register.

Re: Fwd: #iamfamous

Hannes Hirzel
The starter kit now may be downloaded
http://code.famo.us/famous-starter-kit/famous-starter-kit.zip

It comes with code examples and documentation.

Famo.us is a free, open source JavaScript framework that helps you
create smooth, complex UIs for any screen

The FAQ claims

"It is the only JavaScript framework that includes an open
source 3D layout engine fully integrated with a 3D physics
animation engine that can render to DOM, Canvas, or
WebGL."
