Hello! I'm trying to load GemKit on VA 8.0.3 and I have some compatibility errors.
First of all, has anybody been able to successfully load GemKit on VA 8.0.3? For you to understand what I mean, these are the steps I took for loading it: 1. Import scm41009.dat with the configurations 'GemStoneCodeManagement' and 'GemStoneCodeManagement Mods'. 2. Load version '4.1.009' from GemStoneCodeManagement. At this point, an error occurs: "Error: 357 Cannot complete the load because GbcApplicationManager>>#applicationsMenu(13/12/2000 03:53:43 p.m.) does not compile. 3. So I execute "EmImageBuilder cancelIfMethodsDoNotCompile: false", but methods which did not compile were deleted. 4. Load version 'VA5.5.2 + Gbc 019' from 'GemStoneCodeManagement Mods'. Another error occurs: "Error: 362 Cannot complete the load because EtBrowser(02/07/1997 11:09:47 a.m.) in EtTools does not exist in the library." I cannot understand this error because the configuration 'ENVY/Image Development' is imported and it implements the application EtTools that is loaded Could anybody help me solve this issue? Many thanks in advance! |

Very much like the initial subscription process:
Go to http://seaside.gemstone.com/, click on the Support link (to get to http://seaside.gemstone.com/support.html), then click on the "Beta mailing list" link (to get http://seaside.gemstone.com/mailman/listinfo/beta). From there you can scroll down and see instructions for unsubscribing. Hi !
Is this still a vital problem? Do you still have trouble loading the sources? Sebastian |
Hi Sebastian,
The short answer is yes and no. I tried GLASS first and couldn't get it to work and in fact never found a MacOSX version anyway. Dale Henrichs recommends against GLASS anyway because it's too far out of date. The Gemstone/S web edition 3.1.0.1 didn't work for me yesterday, as I described on the forum. This morning I reloaded everything for 3.1.0.1 following the instructions at http://smalltalk.gemstone.com/userguide.html. I got it to work to the point where I could try it using a suggested test routine called startSeaside_Hyper 50081. I wasn't successful. However, this could be a local problem with my LAN ports and I'll have to resolve that myself. So I haven't actually seen Seaside yet via Gemstone. None of my Smalltalk work is vital. I'm a hobbyist only. I began looking at Gemstone again as a result of the interesting discussion we had last Tuesday night. I don't want to bother busy people, but I got frustrated yesterday when I found so many conflicting ways to do things on the Gemstone sites. Yesterday evening James Foster sent me a link to a new Gemstone MacOSX installation package, http://seaside.gemstone.com/jade/GemStoneApp.dmg, but it's untested and it failed before I got half way through the steps. If you're interested, I can send you the reply I sent him showing the errors that came up. Regards, Bruce On 2012-10-13 12:56 PM, SebastianHC

Hi Bruce,
I once had updaed the coding to be loadable into VAST 8.0.0 Beta. From my experience there might be nessesary changes to make it loadable into a VAST 8.0.3 environment. I'll have a look and publish it in vastgoodies. com, if you are fine with that. But this is not tested then!!! Sebastian |

Hi Bruce,
okay I put it up on vastgoodies.com. Should be nice to have it somewhere, eventhought I don't know if one still needs it. It dates back to 2006. If one wants use it, please use the GBSBuilder version from http://community.gemstone.com/display/GSS64/Gembuilder+for+Smalltalk+5.4 Sebastian |
