GemStone/S Client

Runar Jordahl-3
I was amazed to see that there is a GemStone/S client for Squeak
(http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/squeak/1957). GemStone Systems only supports
VisualAge and VisualWorks clients
(http://www.gemstone.com/products/smalltalk/gembuilder_s.php).
If someone made a Dolphin Smalltalk GemStone client, we would have a
Smalltalk environment, specifically targeted for Windows with an
industrial-strength, multi-user OO-database. Has anybody tried to implement
a client for Dolphin?

I don't think it has been done, but I'd love to have a reason to try.

Runar,

We are in advanced stages of developing a Dolphin Client for GemStone. As we
are a small software company based in Uruguay, we are looking forward to
establish contacts with other companies around the world, our web site is:
www.walicxe.com (only available in spanish).

We are planning to contact GemStone and Object-Arts to help us (if they are
interested).

Please if you are interested do not hesitate to contact us at:

That sounds very nice. I would suggest that you put the client in to the
public domain, so that you can profit on enchantments made by other users.
Personally, I don't even use Dolphin, but I think having GemStone as an
alternative for persistency would be very appealing. In my mind, ObjectArt
and GemStone Systems should provide some kind of support to your project, as
it could be very beneficial for them too.

Having worked with VisualAge previously, I hope that Dolphin Smalltalk can
take over the role VisualAge had. VisualWorks is a very nice product, but
for some users a stronger integration with Windows and a cheaper license
price is very important.

Good luck with your work!
