Gemstone 3 beta?

FDominicus
I could swear I've read about it here. But I'm not able to find anything
but the docs. Where are the download packages hidden?

Regards
Friedrich

Thanks, may I ask if there is a reason to hide them that "well" away?

By "hide them" are you referring to the organization of the FTP site? Or are you suggesting that there should be a large "Download GemStone" banner at http://www.vmware.com? ;-)

Friedrich,

When I announced the availability of GemStone3beta3:

http://forum.world.st/GemStone-S-64-Bit-3-0-0Beta3-available-td3260848.html

I also announced the mailing list for tracking GemStone3beta releases
and issues, to subscribe:

I also encourage you to subscribe to the GemStoneBeta mailing list
where discussions and further server beta related announcements will
be made. To subscribe, send an e-mail with the single word
"subscribe" (without quotes) in the subject line or body of the
message to the list administrative address,
   [hidden email].

So it's not as hidden as you think:) It also isn't a banner on the
vmware home page:)

The simplest way to get GemStone/S 3.0 Beta installed on Linux or Mac is to use the
installGemstone3.0Beta.sh script on http://seaside.gemstone.com/downloads.html

That currently installs GemStone/S 3.0Beta4, but will be updated to
GemStone/S 3.0Beta5 when it's available in the not-too-distant future.

Hi!

Installing Gemstone3 Beta with the script below went fine.

Login with GemTools (Pharo) fails because i think I dont have the correct dll for connection to a GS 3.0Beta!

Error: Unable to create GemStone session ... requested version level 800, this server is at level 3000 !

Gerhard,

Try the MagLev GemTools. It's built for 3.0. You might have to edit the session to point to the right stone. Let me know if it helps.

Well, it works by using the full login description with user and password.

Re: Gemstone 3 beta?

Friedrich,

You are correct that GemStone/S products are not fully integrated into VMware .... it is a very large company and large companies move slowly, but there is movement ... Our old identity continues to survive:

  http://gemstone.com/products/gemstone

when our products are integrated into VMware, you might have to look somewhere in "the cloud" to find them:)
