Dear Smalltalkers,
Tenth GSoC is here and application deadline is earlier this year, already next Friday! Time therefore for your cool project ideas on this year Smalltalk GSoC Hurry up! For now just express any idea you have here on the mailing list. Later we will together develop it to be in complete format together with two mentors needed. To see how fully developed ideas look like please look at 2012 ones at:http://gsoc2013.esug.org/ideas. * An interface to manage Smalltalk source code in GIT with tools for merging etc. - with Portability as a primary design goal (Cypress sure is the place to start from)
* Tools to handle non-Smalltalk artefacts from within the Smalltalk IDE (JavaScript, XML, CSS, HTML, JSON) with an integration to the before-mentioned project idea - a portable kernel for handling this external stuff plus an API to put tools on top of it

I carefully avoided the "tools for merging" part :P Anybody who has done merges with git, especially on Monticello packages under filetree format, will understand why :( (I tend to merge under Monticello and recommit instead. Works very well, but doesn't register as a merge for git. It's something I'd like to solve eventually, one day...) Configuration sanity checker. Load all ConfigurationOfs and check if dependencies are
missing or conflicting. By checking monticello files, the introduction moment and interface changes of classes are known, so a range of possible version combinations can be generated. See DeprecationFinder for some sample code. Distributed Issue Tracker, see LightHouse. New widget set, for use with Spec & Glamour. Needs a designer too. Stephan |

Zdravo Janko! - Boundless and zoomable interfaces with Pharo. Continuation of http://gsoc2012.esug.org/projects/esse using Athens. Perhaps creating some development tools.
- Implementation of "Object Semantic Networks" as a new knowledge-representation engine to be used inside Pharo (for various purposes).

Hi,
so that's not exactly what i had in mind. In a portable git interface for Smalltalk code, menticello would be an optional plugin (just like store, envy, sts or whatever), but it would be self contained with a clever api to implant it into a dialect. Let's call it "git native" with plugs for dialects... Looks like FileSystem-Git to me :) http://smalltalkhub.com/#!/~FileSystemGitDev/FileSystem-Git I'm effectively at the other end: making a plugin for Monticello to talk to git. Like the hg equivalent I'v seen announced for ST/X, it shows possible usage patterns of git (and hence be a requirements for your interface). SciSmalltalk : https://github.com/SergeStinckwich/SciSmalltalk This year, I'm considering proposing something that is related to statistic stuff and/or timeseries analysis We really need something like StatPy : http://www.astro.cornell.edu/staff/loredo/statpy/ Pandas : http://pandas.pydata.org/ or scikits.timeseries: http://pytseries.sourceforge.net/ in the community.
