How to save a Canvas to a file ???

Hi everybody!

  I'd like to know how to save a Canvas to a file just to be able to
load it back later (in another session). I'm interested in solutions
that deal only with standard SmallTalk (v.2.3 ?) classes !  In fact I
need to save/restore just a bitmaps, but I mean just a standard Bitmap
class. Thanx guys...
