ICC.ADvance.ICCPNGGenerator performance issue

I use the following method to convert aDepth32Image to a PNG file for
display
on a web site:

ICC.ADvance.ICCPNGGenerator putImage: image onFileNamed: file

On WinXP, performance is not great, but tolerable.  However when I try this
on a unix system (aix or linux), performance is intolerable.  It takes
minutes to stream out to a resulting small file (10's of KB).  Does anyone
have a better idea or solution to this?
