I use the following method to convert aDepth32Image to a PNG file for display on a web site:
ICC.ADvance.ICCPNGGenerator putImage: image onFileNamed: file On WinXP, performance is not great, but tolerable. However when I try this on a unix system (aix or linux), performance is intolerable. It takes minutes to stream out to a resulting small file (10's of KB). Does anyone have a better idea or solution to this? Thanks. Mark |
Hello Mark,
thank you for the problem report regarding the PNG generation performance. Could you please name the used ADvance and VisualWorks release as well as the Linux distribution and version? Our latest test in an Linux SuSE environment did not show this problem. Marc, thank you for looking into this problem. I'm seeing this problem on AIX 5.3 and RedHat Linux release 4. On the linux system uname -r gives me 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp. Visualworks version is 7.4 and ADvance2 version is 7.4_01 of 12/6/05. The image files we're using are the results of screen captures using VW. If you need an image to help you debug, let me know. Again, thanks. I'm doing this work to help IBM's development partners AMD and Freescale get html documentation, so it's helpful to show them what we can do in Smalltalk.

Mark,
See this message for how to use the compression facilities in the VM to make PNGs: http://www.parcplace.net/list/vwnc-archive/0801/msg00006.html HTH, Steve > -----Original Message----- > From: [hidden email] > [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of markPetersen > Sent: 26. helmikuuta 2008 21:22 > To: [hidden email] > Subject: [vwnc] ICC.ADvance.ICCPNGGenerator performance issue > > > > I use the following method to convert aDepth32Image to a PNG > file for display on a web site: > > ICC.ADvance.ICCPNGGenerator putImage: image onFileNamed: file > > On WinXP, performance is not great, but tolerable. Thanks for the information, Steve. I'll take a look.
