Integration with Visual Studio, Eclipse, . . .

Greetings.  I am writing a text editor with some special features.  I'd like people to be able to use it conveniently from their current environments, whether that be Visual Studio, Eclipse, Xcode, . . .   The editor doesn't have to be a pane in their application, but I would like the user to be able to press a key in the application, switch to the special editor, press a key in the special editor, and switch back to the application.  Alt-Tab is a little primitive.  For one thing, I'd like the application / the editor to be refreshed with the latest text.

 

Does VisualWorks offer facilities in this area?
