We have a client who wants to use this, and we have not.

We have many customers using our Wrapper-based application in Citrix
environments. It is years since we had issues with this setup. I am pretty sure you can advice your customers to try this. Runar |
Thanks to all.

We use Citrix Metaframe on Solaris servers capable of running many
images at the same time. It is an invaluable tool which has been in production for us for at least 5 years now (maybe even more). The Citrix client can run on pretty much anything. I have personally used it on Windows, Solaris and Linux, but I am sure there are more. Nick Dennis Smith wrote: > We have a client who wants to use this, and we have not. > |

Yes, we've had clients using our VW 7.1 app over Citrix across the
Atlantic. Since our app has graphics updating on the fly at high speed, and the customers said it worked fine, I'd say Citrix is pretty good. Remote Desktop Connection (and hence Microsoft Terminal Server) is also good, I've used it with basically all VW versions 7.1-7.4.1. You'll want to make sure you have BfDepthChangeFix from the public repository if you leave a local desktop session open to come back to remotely later. There was another customer with NetOp (Danish (?) remote desktop software) in use, and that wasn't as good. After closing some dialogs VW would freeze; pressing the User Interrupt or Emergency Evaluator key helped. In the end that problem was resolved with a bug fix update to the NetOp software (7.65 build 2004-317, problem was "some programs do not receive mouse and keyboard events under Windows 2000"). Just the other day I had a Remote Desktop Connection from my home PC (XP) to my work PC (XP), where VMWare was running Ubuntu Linux. From Linux I opened a telnet connection to our ancient Solaris box, set the DISPLAY to point to the Ubuntu IP, and started up our VW 7.4.1 app on the Solaris box, displaying to the Ubuntu screen. Everything worked fine, which was impressive. I've also seen less good results with remote X servers, but that might just have been when new X versions were having problems with VW anyway - local or remote. Dear Steve,
I've found recent NetOp releases well-behaved with VW. (FYI, when pair-programming with NetOp, it is worth creating different guest and host configurations, with mouse behaviour set approriately in each.)
