Is floating point multiplication expected to answer negative zero?

Richard Sargent

In both 8.6.3 and 9.1, -9876.54788898245e3*0 answers negative zero. I'm not saying this is wrong, but it did surprise me.

Arguably, one should be able to calculate negative zero, so perhaps it is correct.

Comments (from floating point experts)?
