 From the GemStone bugreport for 39741:

When loading some Monticello packages I'm able to consistently get a stack  
corruption. I've created a sample database and a script the reproduces the  
problem on a linked Topaz with a slow executable on Solaris.

The change is primarily to the search of the chain of exceptions and the  
primitives to allow exceptions to be created with the category argument  
being something other than a GemStoneError dictionary.

Fix released in GemStone 2.4. but still exists in GemStone 2.3
