I have a strange situation. If I run 'visualnc' through either the
Explorer, or through the Start menu on Windows XP2, and it loads the default 'visual.im' image, everything works OK. If, instead, I double click on the *exact same image*, which loads and runs, but when I try and connect to the Public Repository, then I get the following dialog: Unable to connect to "Cincom Public Repository" because of the following error: Peer communications error. Any ideas why this might be occurring? They are identical images, just different in how I ran them Chris -- | Christopher Petrilli | [hidden email] |

This message is a IP connection failure of some kind. Do both the working and non-working image run as the same user? Does ad-hoc SQL work on a local store for both? Does ad-hoc SQL work on the public Store for both? I don't know what the problem might be, but understanding the above will help narrow it down a bit. I can telnet to the 5432 port on the server without any trouble, and can connect using pgadmin even. > Does ad-hoc SQL work on a local store for both? I'm confused. When you run visualnc, do you mean a windows shortcut by
that name? Else, how does "running visualnc through the Explorer" differ from "double click" on that image? Also, how do you explain that 'visualnc' (note the 'nc' part) is exactly the same as visual.im (note there is no 'nc' part)? Dave Christopher Petrilli wrote: > I have a strange situation. I double click on the 'visual.exe' file, it loads a "default" image,
and that works. When I click on the exact same "default image" (i.e. visualnc.im), it doesn't work. Could this be related to a "default working folder" problem?
I have seen this before -- usual default folder is VWxx/image sometimes its not depending on how you invoke things. But they are different, you said it yourself, visual.exe launches visual.im and clicking on visualnc.im launches visualnc.im, |
I meant 'visualnc.im' in both situations.

But you were clicking of visual.exe not visualnc.exe? Vm considers image with the same name as default. The easy way to find out is to edit store profiles in each and compare carefully, |
In the case of Visual Works 7.5 NC, there is no visualnc.exe
installed. Instead, it is visual.exe. Chris -- | Christopher Petrilli | [hidden email] On 5/3/07, Boris Popov <[hidden email]> wrote: > > > > But you were clicking of visual.exe not visualnc.exe? This is a stab in the dark, but maybe you are actually using two different VMs and only one has permission via your window's firewall. To verify they are the same or different engine, after you start up VW, do something like: CEnvironment commandLine And if they are different, try with the same engine. Or temporarily disable your firewall software. |

Have you tried comparing the store profiles? |

OK. The reason I asked was in case the run parameters set a user somehow. Another launch question comes to mind. Do you perhaps have the .im extention associated with a different VM from the one you use in the start menu? > I can telnet to the 5432 > port on the server without any trouble, and can connect using pgadmin > even. Right, but you could use ad-hoc SQL to connect to the public store from both images perhaps? All the best, Bruce -- Make the most of your skills - with OpenSkills http://www.openskills.org/ |

Here's what I get when I run it via either the shortcut:
#('C:\Program Files\Cincom\vw7.5nc\bin\win\vwnt.exe' 'c:\Program Files\Cincom\vw7.5nc\image\visualnc.im') And here's what I get with clicking on the Image file: #('C:\Program Files\Cincom\vw7.5nc\bin\win\visual.exe' 'C:\Program Files\Cincom\vw7.5nc\image\visualnc.im') Interestingly enough, neither prompted me with the firewall to connect. It seems if I manually drag the image to the vwnt it works fine, but not on visual... I'll hvae to reviw this later.
