GemStone/S 64 bit version 3.0.x supports these operating systems:
SuSE Linux ES 10 SP1 (kernel version 2.6.16.46-0.12-smp and glibc-2.4-31.30), Red Hat Linux ES 5.0 (kernel version 2.6.18-8.el5 and glibc-2.5-12), or Red Hat Linux ES 5.5 (kernel version 2.6.18-194.el5 and glibc-2.5-49) ( http://community.gemstone.com/download/attachments/6816350/GS64-InstallGuide-Linux-3.0.1.pdf?version=1 ) If I understand this correctly, these are all commercial distributions of Linux, which you cannot use for free. I tried installing 3.0.0 on Ubuntu, but failed. Is there an alternative distribution I could try? What about CentOS? Has anyone succeeded in getting 3.0.1 installed on Ubuntu? Does there exists a virtual image with Linux + GemStone/S 64 bit version 3.0.1 installed? My desktop machine at work (GemStone/VMware) is Ubuntu and I run all the versions of GemStone on it, including 3.0.1.
Can you give more details on what failed?
