But andrew with your proposal how tag: and signal: know that they are not the last message and should signal?
You cannot use a cascade if you do not have a terminating message in a fluid interface

Now it means that we would have to store the tag in a class instance variable... To me it is too much.

May be we can introduce tag:message:

BTW what is the tag of an exception?
