Missing characters when typing?

Michael Rueger-6
Hi all,

seems not to be fixed:

http://code.google.com/p/pharo/issues/detail?id=1048#c4

as additional info:
does that happen only on Linux?
does that only happen with potentially accented characters like e, a, u etc?

There is some really ugly Linux specific code for handling composed
characters which could be the source of the problems. If there are
missing characters on other platforms too then the problem might be
somewhere else.

I'm not familiar with autocompletion (old fashioned using only bare
bones images), so not sure what magic happens there potentially.

Michael

You might be on to something.  Potentially accented characters (I'm no expert on languages, so I could be off a little) seem to drop most often or at least be near to the characters that do drop.

Note that it is difficult to be precise about this.  First, I can never know exactly what keys I hit, and second, I'm rushing to try to stress the event loop which probably increases my error rate.

However, I'm a pretty fair typist, at least when the text is origininating in my head (I never transcribe for others, so I don't have that skill), and I know Pharo does drop characters, even if I can't tell you exsactly which ones.

I use Shout; I do not use autocompletion.  On the latter, if the system can keep up with me, it's quicker to just type of the stuff.
