Is there work on using OpenCL for multicore and GPU computing in VisualWorks? If not, how can someone start to use OpenCL in VW?

No work that I know of. I've done some texture based GPU computation using OpenGL but OpenCL is definitely a better choice. You'd have to start by making a C interface to OpenCL.
