[OpenSmalltalk/opensmalltalk-vm] CoverageWrapper VM crash Squeak (#267)

Fabio Niephaus-3

By enabling coverage reporting in SmalltalkCI (with a new VMVersion) the VM crashes when calling some specific methods on the coverage wrapper, I think.
To reproduce you can checkout the acceptit projects repository here: https://github.com/hpi-swa-teaching/AcceptIt

Here's the error message the crash resulted in:

The bug is also present in earlier VMVersions. Like in this build on travis:
https://travis-ci.org/hpi-swa-teaching/AcceptIt/builds/389123915

This is how the log looks in those cases sometimes:

Hi Fabio,

can you give me precise instructions on how to reproduce this? (I've checked out AcceptIt). Or can you write a script? Or provide an image?

@eliotmiranda
I'm not Fabio but maybe I can still help you with reproducing or at least leading you on the right track.
So I encountered the problem initially, when using smalltalk-ci with coverage testing enabled.
To reproduce it that way, I created a branch with coverage testing enabled on Acceptit.

If you checkout that one and let smalltalkci run, you will encounter the crash. You can also checkout the crash on travis: https://travis-ci.org/hpi-swa-teaching/AcceptIt/builds/404108169 (This is with a very old vm version though) But when reproducing locally with a newer vm version the crash is identical.

Interestingly though if starting the tests manually in the image with coverage enabled it works without any crashes. So to reproduce manually, you'd have to start the tests the exact same way that smalltalkci does, which I didn't manage to do yet. But Fabio probably can help with that.

I hope this helps.

This ran on a pretty old VM from 2016. The VMs used by smalltalkCI have recently been updated with new ones. Please reopen this if you still encounter problems like this.
