Just to give a hint, how a filled cache can improve the responding time of Gemstone.
I've started a stone and made a query over the whole data and the following time was recorded:
first time: 360 seconds
second time: 6 seconds
third(++) time: < 1 second
after some time of no action the responding times went down again, but not as much as when executing it for the first time. This has been measured on a hosted system with 8GB RAM, 4 cores and HDDs.
Wasn't there an option to warm up the chached memory ?
