Please test new VMs (round one)

EstebanLM
Hi guys,

I want to start moving the VM stuff into the new structure. Now I know there are still missing things :)

and start using it, and report problems?

thanks!
Esteban

ps: Windows users: I’m still not there, I’m having problems to build third-party libraries with cygwin… also if someone can help me here I would thank it :)

Hm, building third party libs with cygwin ? Does that means all windows user will have to use a cygwin runtime to use pharo ?

No. You can build regular DLLs using cygwin. As we did with MSYS (in fact, Pharo.exe too is built with cygwin).

The 64bits VM has no crash; sometimes I see some temporary freeze (unlocked with Ctrl+., but nothing "locking" is found when the debugger appear).

Got it running on Windows using “Ubuntu on Windows” and Xming server.

There are some failing kernel tests, but no crash so far ;)

Hi,

On Mac El Capitain, this one manages to open the 64bit Pharo 6 image:
https://bintray.com/estebanlm/pharo-vm/download_file?file_path=pharo-mac-x86_64.0a4ccdf.zip

But this one does not open the image:
https://bintray.com/estebanlm/pharo-vm/download_file?file_path=pharo-mac-i386.0a4ccdf.zip

Cheers,
Doru

Hi,

Browsing through the image works fine.

If I understand correctly, UFFI is not yet working. Is this correct? I tried to play with Roassal and it does not work

No. The 64bit image. I use this one:
http://files.pharo.org/get-files/60/pharo-64.zip

Then the result is as it should be: a i386 vm can't run a 64bits image.

Ok, I got it now. I confirm that pharo-mac-i386.0a4ccdf opens fine a 32 bit image.

Hi Dimitris,
it's not possible for the moment because there are portability issues to solve (low level access to stack pointer, heartbeat, atomic ops, alignment, etc...)
I have some MSVC2015 .vcxproj configured for squeak 32/64 cog/stack spur VM if someone is interested...

Also windows architecture require LLP64 (sizeof long == 4), while cog/spur slang assumed sizeof long = sizeof void * (ILP32 or LP64).
With latest VMMaker changes fixing that problem, I have a working squeak stack spur64 compiled with ./mvm -f CC=x86_64-w64-mingw32-clang thru cygwin64.
Of course it remains to compile the pharo 3rd party.

The cog version (with JIT) crashes early (before opening the Squeak/Pharo window).

Hi,
i downloaded pharo-linux-x86_64itimer.0a4ccdf.zip, pharo-64.zip &
PharoV50.sources and simply extracted everything in one folder. i guess
this is not the correct procedure? i ask, because, when i print 1.0e19,
i get "1.9493552128e10", which looks somehow surprising to me.
