I just listened to the last Smalltalk Podcast that James hosts and
heard talk about projected Projects support in the future.
It struck to me that Projects in other Java are a totally different
notion -- which I seem to remember was the motivation for this in VW
(from a much earlier podcast). Those project wizards will set up a
new directory (namespace in VW?) and add to the classpath the
necessary JARs for runniing that project. Also in certain IDEs
(Eclipse for instance) there is some metadata added to the project to
integrate it into the IDE.
My question is how would this map to a "project" in VW? Classpaths
aren't an issue there (which I believe is one of the biggest boons for
Project Wizards in Java). You could integrate some menu commands
perhaps on a class that say "run this as a Seaside application".
Perhaps there would be support for the Runtime Packager to create an
appropriate image for the project (client based, Seaside, etc.)??
I am really keen to hear some concrete ideas of what a Project in VW
would encapsulate.
Thanks.
