Putting on my marketing hat

OCIT
I have been asked to shift gears and come up with some marketing/promo
material justifying the use of Smalltalk. However, just telling prospects
to surf whysmalltalk.com ain't good enough :) i.e. I'm talking about a
professional quality press kit which among all things specific to one's
product should be able to provide info to potentially uninformed and
misguided prospects.

Concretely for now:

Some of the links citing Computer World awards for JP and Penn State seem
to be dead. If anybody knows where I can get both of these articles from
the web and hopefully in a form that is printatble it would be appreciated.

The Linea Engineering function point analysis link is dead.

A simple sorted list of known projects / companies which have used or use
Smalltalk.

Also, if anybody has condensed material handling the "why smalltalk"
objection and is willing to share it I would appreciate it.

I have always thought that the community should have a specific and kept
up to date "presentable" white paper handling the "why smalltalk"
objection which could be provided to sales teams.

We all should not need to come up with our own. Maybe there is ? :)

thanks in advance,

-Charles

Hi Charles.

you might want to checkout this Computer World link:
http://www.satelliteforces.ca/index.php?option=com_weblinks&task=view&catid=13&id=15

All the technology here is made from or works with Smalltalk.

regards.

David

I expect that this is because Ed Klimas has joined Instantiations.

We're holding a panel at StS 2007 to discuss this issue.

Hi Charles;

Here you can find a recent update about what differentiates ST from the
rest.  They are high level marketing bullets, intending to help explain
Cincom Smalltalk to non-Smalltalkers, particularly at the management and
executive level.

Cincom Smalltalk - It makes hard things easier, and the impossible,
possible.

Here is the text:

What differentiates us?

Productivity
In studies and comparisons, Cincom Smalltalk is consistently more productive
than any other mainstream language.

Simplicity
The language design is simple, consistent, and efficient.

    * Get more done with less (fewer problems, less maintenance)
    * Lets you get your arms around more complex problems

Pioneering
From Cincom Smalltalk's heritage at the legendary PARC labs, to modern
development techniques, our technology has and is setting standards. From
the graphical user interface, to XP / Agile development, people using our
technology are continually making or influencing software development. Find
out why.

Portability
Minimize risk, protect your development investment, and get the platform
flexibility you need. Cincom Smalltalk is a leader in platform portability

Broad Application Flexibility
Building Client, Client/Server, Web Browser, Web Server, Distributed
applications, or all of the above? We have proven successes in all.

Full source code
Want to extend the IDE to custom fit your needs? Choose solutions from
community libraries or customize yourself since we provide you with the
source code to our IDE. You will never be stuck with Cincom Smalltalk.

Enjoyment
Developers using our technology get more done and enjoy doing it. Better
morale and employee retention.

I remember seeing a big and colorful printed Cincom brochure filled with
dozens of beautiful fortune 500 company logos. That could serve as a
nice name dropping resource, too.
