Me suena muy raro que no hayan publicado tan importante anuncio en la
lista de Dolphin, como que tampoco se haya hablado del tema en la
"twittosfera".

El hermetismo no me cae muy simpático, será cuestion de SEGUIR
esperando, y tal vez para fin de año se abra la caja de Pandora.

Yo estuvo ahí en la charla. James Robertson la filmó, así que subirá el video a su sitio (si ya no lo hizo).

La verdad es que la charla estuvo buena, pero hasta ahí nomas. O sea, comentaron las ventajas y las cosas buenas que tiene. Pero...no comentaron nada a nivel técnico ni implementativo.
Lo peor (pobre) fue que Frank estaba muy enfermo y sin voz...

Claramente tienen una visión totalmente distinta a la mía, pero la acepto completamente. Les tiro las puntas que YO entendí:

- No es, ni nunca va a ser open-source
- Supuestamente son mas rapidos que todos. Pero, cuando le pregutamos sobre benchmarks o "cuanto" mas rapido eran, la respuesta fue que era info sensible y que solo se lo decían a sus clientes
- Supuestamente la migración es posta, facil y anda
- La VM soportaría varios lenguages. No sólo dialectos Smalltalk, pero sino otros lenguajes. Onda como podes hacer un connector para Ruby en Gemstone....lo que deberias hacer es el bytecode transofrmation creo, no estoy seguro.
- Multithread and multiprocess
- The VM is written in Assembly, not C.
- Only windows for the moment, but just because they clients run windows. They said everything will be on demand, when someone pays. If a client wants Linux, they will do it. If the client wants a multithredaded debugger, they will do it....etc
- Podrias tener varias imagenes, incluso de dialectos distintos, corriendo en cpus o thredas distintos, y enviarse mensajes de uno a otro.

bueno, eso es mas o menos lo que yo entendí. Tal vez la realidad sea un poco parecida ;)

Estaaaa bien!
Las Ferrari son para los que tienen guita.
La tienen cerradita sobre una plataforma, nadie te dice si el andar es
incomodo o si los cambios son duros, eso no importa. Lo que importa es
que VS ande sobre eso y el resto, el tiempo lo dirá.

Te contesto algunas que me las se…

 

- Supuestamente son mas rapidos que todos. Pero, cuando le pregutamos sobre benchmarks o "cuanto" mas rapido eran, la respuesta fue que era info sensible y que solo se lo decían a sus clientes

Por lo que se hasta 4 veces mas rapido que vs, pero eso fue con la vm v1, no se la actual

 

- La VM soportaría varios lenguages. No sólo dialectos Smalltalk, pero sino otros lenguajes. Onda como podes hacer un connector para Ruby en Gemstone....lo que deberias hacer es el bytecode transofrmation creo, no estoy seguro.

aca esta la explicacion: http://www.dng.st/gvm.htm lo interesante me parece es que va a bancar MSIL, eso para muchas empresas y no empresas creo que es algo interesante y valioso para plataformas windows

Yo estuvo ahí en la charla. James Robertson la filmó, así que subirá el video a su sitio (si ya no lo hizo).

La verdad es que la charla estuvo buena, pero hasta ahí nomas. O sea, comentaron las ventajas y las cosas buenas que tiene. Pero...no comentaron nada a nivel técnico ni implementativo.
Lo peor (pobre) fue que Frank estaba muy enfermo y sin voz...

Claramente tienen una visión totalmente distinta a la mía, pero la acepto completamente. Les tiro las puntas que YO entendí:

- No es, ni nunca va a ser open-source
- Supuestamente son mas rapidos que todos. Pero, cuando le pregutamos sobre benchmarks o "cuanto" mas rapido eran, la respuesta fue que era info sensible y que solo se lo decían a sus clientes
- Supuestamente la migración es posta, facil y anda

- Multithread and multiprocess
- The VM is written in Assembly, not C.
- Only windows for the moment, but just because they clients run windows. They said everything will be on demand, when someone pays. If a client wants Linux, they will do it. If the client wants a multithredaded debugger, they will do it....etc
- Podrias tener varias imagenes, incluso de dialectos distintos, corriendo en cpus o thredas distintos, y enviarse mensajes de uno a otro.

bueno, eso es mas o menos lo que yo entendí. Tal vez la realidad sea un poco parecida ;)
