Repositories (ss3, github, smalltalkhub)

djuber
Hello,

as I started looking at SciSmalltalk again, it looks like perhaps there are some synch issues with ss3, github, and smalltalkhub.

What is the current preferred canonical repository? I assume it's Serge's github repo, but ConfigurationOfSciSmalltalk references the ss3 locations. It looks like some changes were put on smalltalkhub in January by Serge, apparently including some changes to the package names for tests (so that they work properly with Nautilus). Clearly, this was the right move, since jumping to the tests for the classes in Nautilus using the other names created a new class for me. Many of the package names were accidental when I was trying to learn how Monticello interacted with the browser, and I agree with the renaming. I renamed them myself several times when I started to understand the package naming conventions.

Should the readme on github be updated to include smalltalkhub, and should it remove the current ss3 references? It will be easier for everyone going forward if there is one set of code, so that all changes get seen in the same places each time they're made. I'm indifferent where this should be, but I remember what a pain it was to try to synch multiple repo's every time I made a change. Should the smalltalkhub copy be ignored/merged for now? Is ss3 going away in the future, i.e. does moving to smalltalkhub in the near term make the most sense?

Assuming Google allows this project to be part of SOC again this year, I think it's better to fix this now and get a decision before a student has to try to make these decisions themselves, and perhaps favour one or the other repositories, leaving stale copies behind in other places.

Thanks for your input,

Daniel Uber

Yes, I'm currently working to have a simplified workflow.
I already remove the ss3 repository.

I propose that all the dev activities move to the SmalltalkHub repository here:
http://smalltalkhub.com/#!/~SergeStinckwich/SciSmalltalk/

Natalia do you have a SmalltalkHub account ? I will add you.
You have to move the scismalltalk mailing list also.
