Scalability: Tree view strugging

In my first scalability run, the tree view widget is struggling to
handle 250 pages. Particularly since it appears to display with all
leaves open by default.

Not all leaves, but at least every link on the page being viewed seems
to be open.
 Which is quite a few.

I think there are settings to change this behavior from the Web.
