Senders/Implementors with multiple possible candidates

jtuchel
Hi,

Is it only me or do others also think that browsing senders/implementors can sometimes be very clumsy in VAST?

First, if you have multiple candidates fro a selector fragment, VAST also shows methods that are not present in the image.

Second, this causes a lot of extra clicking and typing if you want to go through the other candidates?

Let me explain a bit:

1. You search for senders of, say, "initial*" (Transcript->Tools->Senders)
2. VAST presents a prompter with many existing and sometimes a new non-exitsing methods that start with initial*
3. You click on one of these and happen to hin one that doesn't exist
4. You get a message box telling you there is no such method (sigh) and are asked if you want to try again. You answer Yes
5. You get the input box for the selector you want to search for
6. You click okay
7. Continue with Step 2

This can be annoying.

I think there is some add-on (or has been) that instead opens a Browser that presents a list of all hits for "initial*" and you can click on each of them and browse the method, all in one window. You can simply browse through all the methods that were found in step 1, and work with all of them in one place.

So my questions:

1. Who knows if that add-on is still available? I think I even see this thing from time to time, but cannot remember how I got there last time I had it. Maybe it is even in the image but only used on very special occasions
2. What if this kind of search result Browser was the default for all kinds of Senders/Implementers/References? I think this would be beautiful. For at least two reasons: 1. I save a lot of clicking, thinking and cursing; 2. I save real estate on my screen, because I don't necessarily open 10 windows, because I have all hits in one window.

Thoughts, anyone?

Joachim
