Small Cairo gradiant differences between platforms

I observe some small differences in gradiants between Windows and OSX using Cairo.
The diamond on the left comes from Windows, the diamond on the right is directly on the Quartz surface.




I can work around it by using an intermediate Cairo surface (which comes closer) as shown below, but I wondered whether this is normal ?
