I am trying to create a text editor in squeak that has some extra features. I really want to be able to preserve the layout so it uses the scrollbar instead of manually wrapping the text.

It looks as if TextEditMorph has more control over that and PluggableTextMorph but I have trouble using
those objects.

Does anyone know or have any suggestions on how to make the UITextEdit comply with wrapping? Or another suggestion on text wrapping?

How to run a Pharo 8 image on an Apple Silicon (ARM64)?

Davide Varvello
Hi Guys,
I want to use my old Pharo 8 image on an Apple Silicon (ARM64). I downloaded the stable VM for apple silicon http://files.pharo.org/get-files/110/pharo-vm-Darwin-arm64-stable.zip but it isn't working with my pharo8 image.

My old VM is working, of course, but I suppose it's because of Rosetta... and the performance is not optimal.

Any other solution?

TIA

Hi everyone,

how did things go with theses projects? It seems like the orgMode parser never was ported to Pharo 6 and later: https://github.com/JurajKubelka/OrgMode

Also, was Trentor ever completed and published, Evan?

I'm interested in building and using a Pharo based GTD system and would like to use OrgMode files as the database so I can still use the OrgMode ecosystem with its how-tos and mobile apps etc. And then gradually transition to Pharo.

Is anyone else interested?

cheers

The second article asserts that readers may execute blocking activities within read-critical portions, such as IO.
If the important area can be blocked, I can see the benefit.
Since I've always thought that stopping activities in crucial areas is a bad idea, I haven't given this problem any attention.

UnhandledPromiseRejectionWarning originated either by throwing inside of an async function without a catch block, or by rejecting a promise which was not handled with .catch(). A rejected promise is like an exception that bubbles up towards the application entry point and causes the root error handler to produce that output. It usually happens in async await functions, and there's an easy fix.

const functionName = async (arguments) => {
try {
// Your code here
} catch (error) {
// Handle rejection here
}
};

A nice way to wait for several Promises to resolve to use the Promise.all function. It expects an Array of Promises, and produces a Promise that resolves to an Array containing the values that the individual Promises resolved to. Furthermore, it only resolves after the last Promise resolves. If any of its input Promises rejects, then the entire Promise.all expression rejects as well. It effectively "runs" all of its input processes "at the same time", emulating the classic "fork-join" pattern.

Hi Stéphane,

any follow up on the experiment ?
1. still up to participate? (e.g., in case you are in a major revision process ^^)
2. Any intersting foundings or publication to date? ('cause I'd be very interested !)
3. Any direct link to Smalltalk name handling? (for the sake of the forum :D and for personal insight, if I may)

Thanks,
Edouard

GT issues : lepiter use cases

Hi there,

new comer to the Smalltalk-Pharo-GT community realm.

I encounter some issues while browsing Glamorous Toolkit (gtoolkit) use cases and lepiter forms. Shall I post them here ?

For example, if you open the "Playing with Parsers in SmaCC" show, the example for an arithmetic language do not compile. The DEBUG goes well, but is I click the "V"-compile button I get the following error : "#asSymbol was sent to nil" in scannerClass method.

Where can I find help for these kind of issues ?

Thanks, which you a good one !
Edouard

This ability to not write out to the changes file has proven *extremely* useful for server images that have to read in code every time they start; no ever-growing chnages file to worry about. Given that the chages file on my personal squeaksource setup is exceeeding 900Mb, I'd say that might be auseful general capability.

I'd like to see it adopted for the next release but since it touches several packages it seems polite to check if anyone can spot any problems.
