System Tray apps...

Mark Derricutt-2
I've found a reference in the archives to this forum about a
NotifyShell.pac file ( posted by Don Rylander ) for making use of the
system tray area. (
http://www.talkaboutprogramming.com/group/comp.lang.smalltalk.dolphin/messages/11402.html
)

However, when I paste the that script into a file and try import it I
get an error which appears to be in the final base64'd resource block.

Searching online for the file shows up no response either, does anyone
have a copy they could email me as an attachment?

Or is there another way directly in Dolphin?

There was a change in how binary resources are stored in packages in one of the
recent patches to Dolphin; it sounds as if you may be hitting a problem caused
by that.  What patch level are you using ?  (I have no idea even whether it's
possible to install the patch upgrades into an evaluation copy of Dolphin).  I
think the default installation will create a 5.1.0 image (see the help=>about
text), the current patch-level is 5.1.4.

There have been two packages that do system tray icons, Udo Scheider's and Mark
Niijdam's (which uses a rather different approach).  I have both of these here
(though I've only used Mark's package) which I can send you if you like, and
can /probably/ find older copies that don't require a patched D5.1.4 to load,
but I don't know which format you'll need.

Mark, there's a relatively new version which fixes an annoying feature of
the original version (the pop-up menu didn't disappear until you clicked on
it).  I'll send it to you.  If there's sufficient interest, I could make it
more generally available (e.g., downloadable from a web site).

By the way, in addition to Udo's and Mark's, Dmitry Zamotkin also posted a
version that didn't require a view resource.  I haven't used Mark's or
Dmitry's, so I really can't compare them.

HTH,

Don

Just catching on this now I'm at a point I want/need to add system tray
support.  If you could send me a copy of this package I'd be greatfull.

The one I pulled from the thread mentioned here doesn't want to load up
in a fresh or current image ( from D5 anyway ).

Thanks,
Mark
