Re: Tessel is a microcontroller that runs JavaScript

Hannes Hirzel
Thank you for sharing, Joe.

This is interesting indeed. To use it as a hardware Amber server?

<citation>
Tessel is an internet-connected microcontroller programmable in
JavaScript that enables developers to extend the reach of the web to
physical things. Since Tessel is compatible with Node.js and leverages
the Node Package Manager, adding additional capabilities is as easy as
plugging in a Tessel module and npm installing its firmware.

Tessel's hardware designs are open source hardware (CC BY-SA). Its
firmware and compiler will be open source software (MIT licensed) upon
release.
</citation>

I wonder how this differs from RaspberryPi with Debian and nodejs installed.....
What is surely useful is WiFi out of the box.

Re: Tessel is a microcontroller that runs JavaScript

I think that the difference may be that the Pi is a JS on top of a tiny linux, whereas the tessel, based on the way they phrased it, may be a VM on bare metal (no OS).
I read a couple years ago about a bare metal smalltalk but could not remember exactly what or where - maybe OOVM. this query turned up some interesting linksĀ
https://www.google.com.br/search?q=bare+metal+smalltalk
relative to bare metal squeak on Pi:

smaller and many ready to plug add ons?

I don’t know what you need in order to use an accelerometer from a raspberrypi but in this one sounds pretty straight forward
