I have browsed both Amazon and Barnes&Noble website to see if there
are any reviews of The Dolphin Smalltalk Companion. Is there anyone out there who actually read this book? If so, is it possible to post some reviews of that book at Amazon or Barnes&Noble? Perhaps reviews (positive ones) would help sell more copies of the Dolphin Smalltalk Companion? Larry Trutter |

I ordered the Dolphin Smalltalk Companion some weeks ago and I am still waiting for amazon.co.uk to ship it. It seems it's sold out in the uk, or they haven't got it yet. -- Vennlig hilsen Syver Enstad |

Postage is free (at least to destinations in the UK), and I received my copy the next day as they claim. Regards Blair |

It's a good book. There are a few errors, most of which are addressed at the website, but some of which (unfortunately) might break things enough for a total newbie to get frustrated if they didn't check for the corrections. I had used Dolphin before reading the book (it's not my main development tool, though) and even managed to make a small application from it (one much like Personal money - a small, very simple invoicing thing for a friend of mine), but I still didn't truly feel that I "got" some aspects of MVP, and DSC has convinced me that I was right - I didn't, and there are several places I made things harder on myself than I needed to. :-) I think that's the main strength of the book - work through it and you _will_ understand MVP and how Dolphin supports it. -- Howard Ding <[hidden email]> http://math.sunysb.edu/~hading http://thunder.prohosting.com/~hading |

Sounds good :-) They definitely have had deliveries, probably just didn't order enough ;-) > > Have you tried > > http://www.pcbooks.co.uk/mainpage.asp?Stocknumber=1238123 > > It was in stock when I looked just now. That sounds good to me. I can understand basic smalltalk syntax, but can't grok MVP so that is my reason for buying the book. Btw. I got a confirmation from Amazon.co.uk today that they had finally shipped DSC today. I can't wait. -- Vennlig hilsen Syver Enstad |

Well, I wrote a review, then Amazon led me through a series of screens
updating my account info, and the review is gone. I'll have to try again ;< Short answer - very good book! jlo "Larry Trutter" <[hidden email]> wrote in message news:[hidden email]... > I have browsed both Amazon and Barnes&Noble website to see if there > are any reviews of The Dolphin Smalltalk Companion. > > Is there anyone out there who actually read this book? I wanted to do a review of the book but I did not have the CD which came with it. So I felt I could not do full justice to the great qualities of this book and give it the high rating it would really deserve. Vinay |

Hi Syver,
I have the Book and have been working through it. Upto chapter 3 all seemed fine and very helpfull. But chapter 4 is another story. Mostly OK however, when aspectBuffers are discussed a lot of detail is missing. The major problem I have had with using a ListBox and aspectBuffers re: the section 4.3.4 and I have finally come to the conclusion that the code in the book does not work. I've tried to contact Ted Brackt but my e-mail/browser can't retreive his e-mail address. I can explain the problem and solution in detail if you like, but in short I have found many books have errors, possibly code works for the writter because of additional code (methods) not in the standard code (in this case Dolfin image) and they have simply forgotten about it. A friend had some problems with the code in the book, but generally found that what was on the CD has corrections that didn't make it into the book. Also, you can look at Ted's web site (http://www.tedbracht.co.uk/) for his e-mail and other info. Don |

I can't remember if I had any problems with section 4.3.4. You should look at the errata for the book at Ted Bracht's web site. Google for it's location, all the things that stopped me are there. -- Vennlig hilsen Syver Enstad |
