The Small Project Observatory

Mircea Lungu
Hi everybody,

In the past year I have been working on the Small Project Observatory
(SPO), a Seaside-based application aimed at visualizing and analyzing
Store repositories. Those of you who attend ESUG these days might
have seen Tudor Girba demoing SPO for the innovation awards.

To learn more about SPO, check the two articles that we wrote about
it (http://tinyurl.com/2ahghg, http://tinyurl.com/29hm9j) or see it
in action at http://www.inf.unisi.ch/phd/lungu/spo/ where you will
find a SPO server that observes the Stores from Cincom, Bern and Lugano.

SPO is open source software released under the MIT License. If you
want to install it and test it on your Store see the installation
instructions at www.inf.unisi.ch/phd/lungu/spo/install.

I would love to hear from you in relation to SPO. Feel free to e-mail
ideas, feature suggestions or bug-reports.

Cheers,

Boris Popov, DeepCove Labs (SNN)
Very cool, I'll try to install it here at some point to give it a try.
I'm assuming I can just run it as a db user with only SELECT privileges
to ensure it doesn't mess anything up?

Cheers!

-Boris

Re: The Small Project Observatory

Mircea Lungu
Boris, the only operations on the database are reads, so i think
SELECT privileges should be sufficient. However, if you encounter any
issues let me know!

Cheers,
Mircea.

Re: The Small Project Observatory

Mircea Lungu
Hi Steph,

Thanks! I am happy people liked the project. I wish I could have been
there to see the other projects too because I heard they were really
good!

And in fact, I think that if I was there, I wouldn't have won the
first prize as my vote would probably have been for pier and then we
would have had a tie ;)

All the best,
Mircea.

In reply to this post by Mircea Lungu
Hi Mircea,

Nice work and congratulations on the award.

Can you tell me if the Cincom repository shown in
http://evo.inf.unisi.ch:8009/spo/go/ is the Public one or some other ?
If it is the public repository then can you please explain what basis
the projects are included. Is it based on having a bundle or are all
packages included ?

regards Denis

Re: The Small Project Observatory

Mircea Lungu
Hi Denis,

You are doubly right: the repository that you can see online is the
public repository and only bundles are considered "projects". However
thanks for asking about packages. I was thinking about considering
them too, and actually you are not the first who wants to visualize a
single package :)

The plan is to make the packages which do not belong to a bundle to
be projects in their own right. Moreover I also want to let the user
define the list of packages he considers as making up a project for
the case where the bundle definition is not sufficient. I will email
you when I finish implementing these features.

Best regards,
Mircea.
