Dear Squeakers,
happy new year, and welcome to the The WeeklySqueakSummary, an irregular traffic-dependent report on what's going on in the world of Squeak based on the WeeklySqueak blog. Highlights of the past weeks: The one topic that has gotten most coverage on the Weekly Squeak blog recently has been the OLPC initiative. The enormous response to the G1G1 (give one, get one) programme [1] has shown that great interest in the little green boxes is prevalent also in non-target countries of the initiative [5,8]. Intel is no longer a member of the consortium [11], and one may wonder whether the "competitive products" will stand the comparison... [12] Lively is a very interesting JavaScript-based development environment running in your browser (if you use a very recent Firefox or Safari build, that is). It looks somewhat familiar to Squeak users. Dan Ingalls has given a presentation at Stanford [13]. FInally, there's a nice collection of images showing Smalltalk running on an Alto [9], taken in 1979, when Smalltalk was still very very young. (But hey! It's a GUI! In 1979!)
