Unicode looks less ugly and basic cut 'n paste works.
The screen graphic shows a bit of Russian and English text where I used a Workspace to place some Chinese in the cut buffer and then pasted it in the editor.
Thin (e.g. ASCII) letters are no longer 16 bits wide -- now 8 bits. Text highlighting and the insertion cursor now display.
Much breakage still, but closer to something useful!
