Hi Marten,
I'm moving to 11.10 myself pretty soon. I posted some instructions for the keyboard fix for 11.04 in this post: https://groups.google.com/d/topic/va-smalltalk/3-jt-1ms2RU/discussion. That's what I will be trying pretty soon, let me know if you try that and it doesn't work. Thanks - Seth

While I appreciate the desire to run the latest and greatest versions of an operating system, maybe this isn't a practical goal. What I'd like to see from Instantiations is a guaranteed commitment to support the current LTS release of Ubuntu (along with Red Hat and SuSE), with newer releases supported on a best-effort basis. There are many things I'd rather see Instantiations expending resources on than chasing the latest releases of Fedora and Ubuntu. Personally, if I'm going to deploy a server into production, I'll be using the most stable version of the operating system that I can get.

Thomas,
yes this is quite ok for server system (bad:the current Ubuntu LTS version is 10.04 and VASmalltalk never run on that system). But for desktop systems developers must have early access to newer system - just to know, if there is a critical situation coming in the future. Desktop systems are (at the moment): Windows, MacOS and even Linux. VASmalltalk is only an option for Windows. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "VA Smalltalk" group. @Seth: It worked for ASCII codes, but nor for e.g. German Umlauts.

But Marten, you're practically arguing my point for me! So far, Instantiations is having enough trouble getting VA Smalltalk to work correctly on current non-Windows systems, and now you're hoping for support on unreleased versions.
Actually, I agree that it's good to know as early as possible if there's going to be trouble on upcoming versions, but there's already known problems - how do we know if the problems on the next version are new, or just variations on what we're already seeing? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "VA Smalltalk" group. I am hoping nothing and expecting nothing - I just wanted to say so that nobody can say afterwards: ohh, we had no time to check it. Our internet systems (where my demos are located) are running using Ubuntu 10.10 (simply I wished a NON 10.04, which our admin actually preferred at those days). For server I would use 10.04 LTS and most hosters here in Germany offer only (in the Ubuntu familiy) 10.04 LTS.
